We are going to the ZOO!

On Monday, October 5, we began a two week unit on the zoo. We will continue this unit we return on October 12. We are studying the animals that live in the zoo and their natural habitats. Some of our favorite stories include We're Going to the Zoo, Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed, Goodnight Gorilla, From Head to Toe, Polar Bear Polar Bear, Five Little Monkeys Swinging from a Tree, and We're Going on a Bear Hunt. As you can see we have already begun our kindergarten zoo mural! We will continue adding animals this week. Our good behavior program will end this week with a Zoobilee! We will have monkey pudding, zebra cakes, and jungle juice! We already have the ingredients for monkey pudding, and we have plenty of jungle juice, but we need Little Debbie (or any other brand) zebra cakes (the ones with the white icing and chocolate stripes). We will have a zoo animal parade and play games. Student earning 8 stripes on their zebra will be invited. All students have earned at least 3; so, with good behavior this week they should all be invited!
This week we will be continuing to blend short a words. Along with the sight words, your child should be able to read 3 letter words that end with am, at, or ap by the end of this week. (examples: hat, ram, cap) In math, we are continuing to work on patterns. We are also beginning the chapter on numbers 6-10. Please work on recognizing numbers 0-20 and counting objects to match.
We are looking forward to a great week!
