Family Reading Night at Sherman

Gobble Up Some Good Books! is our family reading night at Sherman Avenue. Monday, November 19, from 5:00--6:30 will be very exciting. We will have stations set up where you and your children can listen to a story, make a craft, get their faces painted, apply for a library card, and make a special snack. You can also enjoy a yummy hot dog supper for only $1 per person! Each student enrolled at Sherman will receive a free book provided by the RIF program. Your entire family is invited to attend. I will be there to read or make crafts with you! I am very excited about this event and hope to see my whole class there!!!! Don't miss the fun!

Letters We Have Learned

WE HAVE LEARNED ALL OUR LETTERS AND SOUNDS!!! I AM SO PROUD OF ALL OUR STUDENTS!

Now we need to work on reading short vowel words like cat, pop, pot, cap, lip, fig, pit, pet, pen, fed, ham, fox, cut, rug, sun.

Words We Know

All the students have earned their candy bars! I am so proud of them for learning their color words, number words, and sight words. They need to continue practicing these throughout the summer to guarantee they will know them in first grade.
Your child can read three letter words with short vowels in the middle. Please practice these also.
The Easy Reader section in the public library is a good source for books your child can read with a little help.

Numbers

Your child should know numbers 0--20 in random order.
We will work on our numbers all the way to 30.
Your child should be able to name the numbers, put the numbers in order, and count objects to match the number.
We are also working on comparing numbers to decide which is less or greater and finding missing numbers.

About Me

Mrs. Cheryl Ricks
I am passionate about teaching! I believe kindergarten is so important because it is your child's first formal school experience. Kindergarten should not only provide your child with the necessary skills to learn but also with a love for learning. I have been teaching for 25 years in various settings from public school to private school and some homeschooling in between. In all of my experiences, I strive not only to provide a quality education but also a fun environment for learning. I love what I do and I love your children. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to teach your children!
